The Pilot International Scholarship, established in 1988 to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students preparing for a career working with youth leadership and development, helping people with brain safety or fitness, or caring for families during times of need. Scholarships are awarded for financial need, academic success, and application contents. Scholarships are awarded for one academic year. A student may re-apply and be granted the Pilot International Scholarship for no more than three additional years.

Brain Injury Association of America Partnership Scholarship

Amount Awarded: Up to US $250 per person
Eligibility: Caregivers and Direct Care Staff
Application Deadline: Ongoing, yearly scholarship allowance of $5,000

The Brain Injury Association of America and Pilot International are excited to announce a partnership and scholarship opportunity for caregivers! Family caregivers and direct care staff facing the challenges of caring with an individual (or individuals) with brain injury may apply to receive a scholarship of up to $250 to obtain the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists’ Brain Injury Fundamentals Certificate.

The Pilot International Brain Injury Fundamentals Scholarship Fund was established in 2018 to expand Pilot’s efforts for promoting awareness for brain-safe practices, injury prevention, and mindful behavior; as well as for supporting those who care for individuals with brain injury. An amount of $5,000 per year is dedicated to funding individual scholarships for the Fundamentals Certificate Program. Awards of up to $250 per person, up to $5,000 annually, are provided.

The Fundamentals Certificate provides training direct care staff and individual caregivers on the best level of care for people living with brain injury. The topics covered include cognition, medical complications, medication safety and management, as well as the physical and emotional burdens faced by families coping with the injury. Becky Burrows Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility: Graduate & Undergraduate Students

The Becky Burrows Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in 2005 from the estate of Becky Burrows. Becky Burrows lived in Arlington, Virginia and was a member of the Pilot Club of Arlington Northeast Potomac District, for 38 years. She was one of the first nine employees at the International Monetary Fund where she worked for 29 years. She was very friendly and spent much of her time at Pilot events making guests feel welcome and was also very helpful to new Pilots. She attended more than 25 Pilot International Conventions where she often served as a doorkeeper.

This scholarship is intended for graduate or undergraduate students who are re-entering the job market, beginning “second careers,” or seeking to improve their professional skills for their current occupation by continuing their education in that field. Students must pursue courses of study that further Pilot International’s mission to transform communities through education and service in the area of Preparing Youth for Service, Encouraging Brain Safety & Health; Supporting those who care for others.

Marie Newton Sepia Memorial Scholarship

The Marie Newton Sepia Memorial Scholarship Fund established in 1983 as a part of Pilot International to provide financial aid to a qualified graduate or doctorate student preparing for or currently working in careers related to youth development and leadership, brain safety and fitness or caring for families in times of need. M. Fred Sepia made the initial contribution to the fund in memory of his wife, Marie, who was a longtime member of Pilot International and served as International President in 1968 – 1969. It is intended that this fund will permanently further Pilot International’s mission by assisting worthy capable individuals to pursue careers in which they will teach, encourage and rehabilitate children with disabilities. The Marie Newton Sepia Memorial Scholarship is for students studying at the master’s or doctorate level who are preparing for or currently working in a career related to Preparing Youth for Service, Encouraging Brain Safety & Health; Supporting Those who Care for Others.

Ruby Newhall Memorial Scholarship (International Students Only)

Ruby Newhall Memorial Scholarship (International Students Only) was established in October 1949. Ruby Newhall was from Gainesville, Florida and was president of Pilot International. Her contacts with international students at the University of Florida strengthened her belief that these students could contribute significantly to improving international relations. An applicant for the Ruby Newhall Memorial Scholarship must be from a foreign country, pursuing a degree in the United States or Canada. The field of study must be of a nature that it improves the quality of life for the community in their home country. Scholarship funds, not to exceed $1,500, are disbursed for one full academic year and must be used for tuition and related educational expenses considered necessary by the Executive Committee. Assistance may only be extended to students who are studying through the doctorate level.

 Bob King Co-Pilot Memorial Scholarship

The Bob King Co-Pilot Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 to provide financial assistance to graduating high school seniors and/or undergraduate students preparing for a career that furthers Pilot International’s mission. Co-Pilot Bob “Santa Bob” King was the husband of Pilot Shirley King, a member of the Pilot Club of CSRA in Augusta, Georgia. Bob was passionate in his support of Co-Pilot projects on the state and international level, most notably improvements at Pilot International Headquarters in Macon, GA. Bob passed away on September 3, 2012, while on a cruise celebrating his 44th wedding anniversary. During the 2014 Pilot International Leadership Conference, the Co-Pilots elected to fund a scholarship in Bob’s memory. Scholarships are based on community service, financial need, academic success, and application contents. Scholarships are awarded for one academic year. A student may re-apply and be granted the Bob King Co-Pilot Scholarship for no more than 3 additional years. Award amounts may vary, but will not exceed $1,500 per year for full time students and $750.00 for part time students. Two individual scholarships will be awarded each year.

KC International Scholarship

The KC International Scholarship funded by an anonymous donor was established in 2017 to provide financial assistance to international students pursuing careers that further the mission of Pilot International by seeking to influence positive change in communities throughout the world. The applicant must have a record of active participation in volunteer service and show outstanding leadership ability. The applicant should reflect on their cumulative community service, leadership ability, and career choice when completing the application. Scholarships are based on community service, leadership roles, career choice, academic success, and application content. Scholarships are awarded for one academic year. Award amount will not exceed $2,500 per year for full time students. Two individual scholarships will be awarded each year. The applicant must be a full-time student and remain a full-time student for the duration of the scholarship.

KC Anchor Scholarship

The KC Anchor Scholarship was established in 2017  with funding from an anonymous donor to provide financial assistance to graduating high school seniors who have actively participated in volunteer service through an Anchor Club and shown outstanding leadership ability. The Anchor should reflect on their cumulative Anchor experience when completing the application. Scholarships are based on community service, leadership roles, financial need, academic success, and application contents. Scholarships are awarded for one academic year. Award amount will not exceed $2,500 per year for full time students. Two individual scholarships will be awarded each year. The applicant must be a full-time student and remain a full-time student for the duration of the scholarship.
